About Me

For 30 years, I called a red brick home in a small town a few miles downriver from Pittsburgh, home. I have two brothers and two sisters, and growing up, we had dogs, gerbils, hamsters and fish. My father, my oldest sister and I all graduated 16th in our respective classes. My dad was an electrical draftsman and my mother was a secretary. In high school, I lettered in four sports, as well as the marching band, and was the sports editor of my high school newspaper. The five of us earned college degrees, three in engineering. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Phys Ed from the University of Pittsburgh – where I also edited the sports pages at The Pitt News – in 1985.  In 1989, I enlisted in the US Army and became a missile technician, serving almost three years in Alabama and one in South Korea. While working as a caseworker with the Butler County Children and Youth Agency, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University and my Master of Social Work, before retiring after 20 years.  I worked as a Mobile Therapist for seven years. I continue to play volleyball weekly, and enjoy creative writing, going to the movies and hiking to waterfalls.  Additionally, I am pleased to be the aunt of six nieces and nephews; one is married, and four have graduated from college.

Values and Policy

As your Representative, I intend to bring honesty to Harrisburg.  My beliefs are not for sale to the highest bidder. Doing what's right is my history, my priority, and my promise to you.
Skills forged in the military and sharpened during my tenure as an employee advocate enable me to bring Army discipline to Harrisburg's partisan legislature.
Every person deserves a fair chance at success. However, the deck is stacked against too many of us. I will make every effort to fight to give all of us a chance at the American Dream.

Fight for Working Families

My 16 years as a Union Officer in SEIU 668 taught me much about the misuse of power by those who think of themselves rather than the good of all. I will bring the fight to Harrisburg to give working families a chance in an increasingly unequal America.
As a Licensed Social Worker with over 20 years serving this area's children and families, I have seen first hand how opioids have decimated families and communities. I will introduce legislation to hold Big Pharma accountable for the epidemic they created, and work to reduce the associated mass incarceration of non-violent drug addicts.
For too long have our schools and children have suffered under extreme budget cuts imposed by previous administrations. Having taught in inner city and suburban schools, I understand the challenges our educators face, and will fight privatization and stand  for the future of the children of our state.
